An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest
Inspired by the Scheidel scholarship programs created by Herb and Miyuki Scheidel at the University of North Florida and Florida State College in Jacksonville, additional scholarships have been established through the Foundation. These include scholarships at the following institutions: the State College of Florida – Manatee in Sarasota, Florida; St. John’s River State College in St. Augustine, Florida; and the National Central University in Taipei, Taiwan. In addition, Scheidel Scholarships are offered at Herbert Scheidel’s high school alma mater, Villa Angela Saint Joseph High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
An ongoing culture of active community involvement is encouraged in all state and university-level Scheidel Scholarships through required community service hours per semester.
State College of Florida – Manatee Sarasota
Established in 2009, the Scheidel Scholarship – Manatee Sarasota was created to offer two associate degree scholarships per year to eligible residents of three Habitat for Humanity chapters in the Sarasota area or residents or graduates of the Manasota Solve Maternity Homes. Each scholarship covers 100% of tuition, books, and fees.
In 2011 the Foundation expanded the program by offering a four-year scholarship to the same individuals who successfully obtained their associate degree under the scholarship and wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree at one of the following local colleges: State College of Florida–Manatee-Sarasota, the University of South Florida–Sarasota-Manatee, the University of South Florida–Tampa and New College.
Established in 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan, the National Central University (NCU) offers four-year Scheidel Scholarships to students who demonstrate need, with a preference given to Taiwanese aboriginal or local Taiwanese students. The Scheidel Scholarship, which pays for all tuition, books, and room and board, is now offered to two students per year, with up to eight students attending NCU at any given time.
Villa Angela St. Joseph- Cleveland
The Scheidel Foundation has been supporting Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School since 2010 when it established the first endowed scholarship in the school’s history. The Scheidel Scholarship is offered to at least two students per year who would not otherwise be able to afford to attend the school. VASJ has a consistent record of 100% graduation rate and 98% or more of VASJ’s graduating seniors enroll in post-secondary education. VASJ is a Catholic, comprehensive college preparatory school rooted in the Ursuline and Marianist traditions and committed to the spiritual, academic, and personal growth of each student.
