Scheidel Scholarships: Pay It Forward
Scheidel Scholarship programs provide financial support while promoting a culture of active community involvement. This sentiment is reflected in the Scheidel Scholarship motto, “Pay It Forward” and the community service required for each scholar.
The original Scheidel scholarship programs were created by Herb and Miyuki Scheidel at the University of North Florida and Florida State College in Jacksonville. Over the years, additional scholarships have been added by the Foundation at other campuses. Scheidel Scholars join a lifelong community of other Scheidel Scholars and alumni together with actively involved Scheidel family members.
Potential scholarship applicants are required to contact the school directly for all questions regarding eligibility, the application process, verification, or general inquiries. The Foundation will not accept any scholarship applications or supporting documents.
Herb and Miyuki Scheidel Endowed Scholarships
Established by Herb and Miyuki Scheidel, these Jacksonville, FL-based scholarships serve students affiliated with several local organizations and schools, and recipients of the Herbert W. Scheidel Community Leadership in Action Award. At the University of North Florida, classical music students are also accepted into the program.
At Florida State College at Jacksonville, the Scheidel Foundation provides additional support through an on-campus, full-time Scheidel Scholarship Coordinator who provides one-on-one, customized coaching to help scholars navigate the complexity of academic demands and college life. The Coordinator organizes monthly workshops for Scholars to build college and career skills and connect with their peers.
Each fall the Scheidel Foundation and family host an annual Scholars’ Banquet to recognize the students. Throughout the school year, the Foundation sponsors “coffee visits” with family members, scholars, and alumni, and organizes community service activities, such as home-building for the local Habitat for Humanity.
