For Grant Seekers

Funding Guidelines

Funding areas are restricted to charitable organizations which qualify as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. In very rare circumstances, the Foundation will make expenditure responsibility grants to international organizations with which it has direct contact.

Only solicited proposals are accepted.  If you think your organization or program may be a good fit for our grants, please contact us at cw@scheidelfoundation.org. Proposals are not accepted outside of our grantmaking areas of college readiness and completion and integrative medicine.

Grants range from $500 to $150,000 in size, with the average size being between $5,000 to $40,000.

The Foundation does not accept proposals for grants:

  • To individuals.
  • For purposes of legislative lobbying.
  • For activities that directly or indirectly participate or intervene in political campaigns on behalf of any candidate for public office.
  • To religious organizations where the primary purpose is the promotion of specific religious doctrine.

The Foundation is particularly interested in:

  • Strategic grants that have a transformative and/or catalytic effect on the targeted issue or the organization’s capacity
  • Seed money to begin new and innovative programs, with detailed evaluation component to prove success to potential new funders
  • Proposals that create long term solutions
  • Organizations and programs that cooperate with other community resources/agencies
  • Proposals that leverage additional resources (through matched funding or government programs)

Grants are reviewed by the board twice per year in the spring and fall.  Please see the home page for the next application deadline.
